Note: Only Guitar Hero 1 & 2 used covers of songs. From the time that Harmonix went on to make Rock Band and Activision took over Guitar Hero both studios started using actual master tracks. It comes off in the podcast like they use covers for all the games in order to make more profit. Harmonix claims they didn’t have the funds available with the original 2 Guitar Hero games in order to obtain master tracks and that what they were doing was “too new and risky” for music labels to allow the use of these tracks. The rise in popularity and $$$ obviously changed their minds on that.

I will agree that occasionally truth is obscured by cynicism.
Thanks for the note! I’ll correct us in the next episode.
